What 🤔 means from a girl or a guy

Who sent the thinking face and what came before it change the reading more than the emoji itself does.

From a girl

When a girl sends you the thinking face emoji, it often means she's genuinely considering your words and wants to respond thoughtfully. Sometimes, it can also be a polite way of saying she needs a little time to formulate a response, especially if the conversation is a bit intense. Don’t overthink it too much – it’s usually a good sign.

From a guy

A guy sending the thinking face emoji can mean a few things. He might be genuinely trying to understand what you’re saying. Or, he could be stalling for time before giving you an answer. It’s less often used to signal confusion than it is to show he’s actively considering your point.

How to reply

If someone sends you 🤔, you could reply with: “Seriously 🤔”, “Let me think 🤔💭”, “I’m with you 🤔”, or “Good point 🤔👍”.

What 🤔 means on TikTok, WhatsApp and Discord

Chat apps do not change U+1F914, they change what it looks like and what people take it to mean.

TikTok & Instagram

Generally, when someone sends you the thinking face emoji, they’re either trying to get your opinion or they’re expressing that they need a moment to process what you’ve said. It’s a way of saying "Let me think about that." In comments and captions it is read the same way — the tone comes from what it sits next to.

WhatsApp draws 🤔 with Apple-style artwork on every phone, so it looks identical for both sides. A message with only 🤔 in it is shown enlarged.

Discord & Slack

Both accept the shortcode . Discord renders Twemoji, so 🤔 looks different there than on your phone.

Outlook & email

Outlook has no emoji picker on desktop — press Win + . or Control + Command + Space inside the message body, or paste 🤔 from the copy button above.
