Every country and territory flag in Unicode is built from two regional indicator letters โ ๐บ๐ธ is literally U + S. That is why flags break into pairs of letters on systems that do not support them, and why there is no flag for regions without a country code.
Beyond countries there are the pride flags, the pirate flag, the chequered flag and the plain coloured ones, all of which are single characters rather than letter pairs.
