Privacy policy

What this site does and does not collect.

What we collect

WebEmoji does not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect names, emails or anything else that identifies you. Copying an emoji, the live search on the home page and mixing two emojis happen entirely in your browser.

The search page and the emoji decoder send what you look up to our server, because the answer is built there. The decoder first strips the words out of a pasted message in your browser, so only the emoji characters are sent. Like any page request, these lookups appear in the standard server log described below.

Your colour theme choice is stored in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device.

01

Analytics

We use Google Analytics and Yandex Metrica to count visits and see which pages people actually use. Both set cookies and receive your IP address, device type and the pages you open.

Metrica also records anonymised sessions — scrolling and clicks, without anything you type — which is how we find layout problems on phones we do not own.

Neither is needed for the site to work. You can block Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out add-on, and both counters with any content blocker.

02

Advertising

The site is paid for by ads served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

You can switch off personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of many ad networks at once at aboutads.info. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google’s message before advertising cookies are set.

03

Third parties

Emoji Kitchen stickers are loaded directly from Google’s servers, so Google may see the standard request information any web server receives.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested page) for security and diagnostics.
