Symbols to copy and paste

Text symbols are not emojis — they are plain characters, drawn by your font in the colour of the text around them. That is why they survive in usernames, filenames and documents where an emoji would be stripped.

A symbol is text. ♥ takes the colour of the type around it and survives in a username or a filename; an emoji is a colour picture the platform draws for you and often gets stripped by forms. Both have their place — this page is the text half.

If you are after faces rather than single characters, those are Japanese text faces — (◕‿◕) and the rest, built from several characters at once. To restyle whole words instead, use the font copy and paste generator. For decorating a profile there is a separate set of aesthetic symbols for bios, and when a field refuses to stay empty you need an invisible character.

FAQ

Symbols — questions people ask

What is the difference between a symbol and an emoji?
A symbol is text. ♥ is a character your font draws in the colour of the surrounding text, so it works in a username, a filename or a document. An emoji like ❤️ is a separate character that every platform replaces with its own colour picture. Symbols paste anywhere; emojis sometimes get stripped.
How do I type these symbols on a keyboard?
On Windows hold Alt and type the code on the numeric keypad — Alt+3 gives ♥. On Mac use Control + Command + Space to open the character viewer. Copying from this page works everywhere and needs nothing installed.
Why does a symbol show as an empty box?
That device has no font covering the character. Common symbols are in every font; runes, braille and mathematical alphabets are not. The character is still correct — it just cannot be drawn there.
Can I use symbols in a username or a bio?
In a bio, yes, everywhere. Usernames are stricter: Instagram and TikTok allow symbols in the display name but not in the handle. Discord allows most of them in a nickname.
Do symbols work on both phone and computer?
Yes — the character is identical, only the drawing differs by font. A symbol copied on a phone pastes correctly into a desktop app and back.
How many symbols are there?
This page has 6123 of them across 20 blocks — arrows, maths, currency, geometry, dingbats, braille, cards, music, runes and the styled alphabets behind “fancy text”.
