About WebEmoji

A reference for every emoji in Unicode — what it means, how it looks on each platform, and how to use it.

What this site is

WebEmoji documents all 1,923 emojis in the Unicode standard. Each one has its own page with the meaning people actually use it for, the artwork every major platform draws for it, the codes developers need, downloadable images and ready-made combinations.

The aim is simple: whatever you wanted to know about an emoji, it should be on that emoji’s page — not spread across a dozen thin pages.

01

Where the data comes from

Character data, names and versions come from the Unicode Standard and CLDR. Platform artwork comes from the vendors themselves — Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft, WhatsApp, Twitter/X, Facebook, JoyPixels — plus the open-source OpenMoji set. Emoji Kitchen stickers are served directly by Google.

Emoji artwork remains the property of its respective vendor. Unicode® is a registered trademark of Unicode, Inc.

02

How the meanings are written

Dictionary definitions and real usage drift apart fast. 💀 is a skull in Unicode and “I’m dead, that’s hilarious” in a group chat. Every page separates the two, and adds how the emoji reads coming from different people and how to answer it.
